A Whiter Shade of Pale
Yes, that shows my age! It was a song by Procol Harum in the 70’s. And it perfectly describes all the “new” whites in paint. Gone are the days of saying, “Paint it white, please.” Unless it’s a new home coming with builder white, the options are endless.
I recently painted my sunroom and consulted our interior design expert, Shannon Bowman (SB Interiors), and she totally schooled me on shades of white.
“White is the perfect backdrop for a room. I’m a fan of white with subtle hints of one tone, whether it’s a warm tone or cool tone. Creating a subtle and calming backdrop allows the other layers of design shine. This could be artwork, furniture, window treatments, or even the beautiful landscape outside your windows.”
Bowman suggested a white with a subtle warmth for my sunroom. It totally reflects the sunlight and brings a beautiful hue to the room. Upstairs in the “grandkids nursery” we chose a white with a pale green base. So soothing!
Some trends published in House Beautiful state that chalky white paint is in. The matte finish creates a soft feel. However, whether it’s high gloss, flat/matte, lacquer or sueded, choosing the subtle white color can transform your room.
